Otago Falls Prevention

People can fall for different reasons, and often a range of things may play a part in causing a fall. These reasons or causes for these falls are known as risk factors.

Some older people are more likely to fall than others, because they have more of these risk factors. These can result from illness, or a less healthy lifestyle. The more risk factors a person has, the more likely they are to fall. If you know what your risk factors are and deal with them, you can greatly reduce your risk of falling.

This is where the team at Coastal Physiotherapy can help. There are many of these risk, factors, and with our assistance and the Otago Falls Prevention Program, we can help you identify these risk factors and develop solutions to reduce your, or your loved ones’ chances of falling.

The Otago Falls Prevention Program was designed specifically to prevent falls. It consists of a set of leg muscle strengthening and balance retraining exercises progressing in difficulty, and a walking plan.

We offer a Home program, where our physios will come out to the patient, or a discounted, in house program, where the patient visits our clinic, and our physios treat them here. Our physiotherapy team is experienced and understanding in helping you to regain mobility and independance.

Here is a short list of some of the most common risk factors:
